Travel Story by Avril Hepner

  Geisha spotting
Kyoto, Japan

Avril describes what a geisha looks like and how difficult it was to take photographs of geishas. Tourists were fighting for space to take the best photos.

We went to the Gion district at dusk (5.30pm at that time) to witness the geishas on their way to the teahouse. We saw 5 or 6 geishas but only took 1 or 2 photos.

Avril felt she needed to go on a photography course and could now empathise with professional photographers having to wait for several hours to capture the best photos.
